Military Market

Modern armed forces face a critical gap: when evacuation is delayed or impossible, wounded soldiers die from
survivable injuries. The golden hour cannot be guaranteed in contested environments. SurgiField changes that.

The Problem We Solve

When evacuation fails, forward surgical
capability saves lives

Future conflicts will stretch evacuation timelines far beyond the golden hour. In contested and austere environments, from littoral combat ships to forward operating bases, casualties need damage-control surgery at the point of injury, not hours later at a rear-echelon hospital.
The SurgiField System is a rapidly deployable, ultraportable surgical environment that fits in a backpack. Ruggedized for field conditions and slingload compatible for aerial delivery, it transforms any space a tent, a basement, a vehicle into a compliant surgical field in under 5 minutes, with HEPA-filtered, positive-pressure airflow meeting ORlevel ventilation standards. The system accommodates abdominal, torso, and extremity procedures, enabling damage-control surgery across
the full range of combat injuries.
Engineered at MIT and co-developed with U.S. Army and Air Force trauma surgeons, the SurgiField System is combat-proven in Ukraine and Myanmar, CE Marked (FDA approval expected Q2 2026), and published in Military Medicine and BMJ Innovations.

Operational Advantages

Five force-multiplying capabilities
Role 2 Augmentation in a Backpack

Entire system weighs under 5 kg. Deploys from a
rucksack to create an OR-like surgical environment —
no fixed infrastructure required.

Parallel Surgery Capability

Enable multiple clean and safe simultaneous
procedures at field hospitals and on naval vessels,
increasing throughput during mass casualty events.

Prolonged Field Care & En-Route Surgery

Perform damage-control surgery when MEDEVAC is
delayed or impossible. Maintain sterility during
CASEVAC or in transit.

Dual Patient-Provider Protection

Positive-pressure HEPA-filtered enclosure protects
the surgical site from contamination while shielding
providers from bodily fluids.

Low Logistics Footprint, NATO Interoperable

Single-use SurgiBubble eliminates sterilization logistics.
Battery-powered SCM provides 4+ hours per charge.

“This equipment helps to save time for processing the operating field, and ensure sterility in aggressive environments. Namely in basements, tents, under the conditions of transportation by sanitary transport. It
provides immediate operative access to a serious injury and ensures the preservation of an injured person’s life where it is not possible to provide qualified assistance in the operating room.

Who We Are

Enabling on-demand surgical capacity

Headquartered in Cambridge, MA, USA, SurgiBox Inc. is a medical technology company committed to bringing safe surgery to patients, anytime, anywhere.
We co-develop ultraportable innovations with frontline users, addressing real-world needs to protect both patients and healthcare providers everywhere.

The SurgiField system includes three components

SurgiBubble - a single-use, sterile inflatable drape that creates a protective barrier over the surgical site.
Smart Control Module (SCM) - a reusable, batterypowered airflow unit with HEPA filtration to maintain a clean surgical environment.
Pop-Up Frame - an external structure that provides stability and shape to the SurgiBubble.

FAQ

How easy is setup and takedown?

In human factors testing, 100% of surgeons successfully set up the system using only the included instructions.

How clean is the environment inside the SurgiBubble?

The system provides 30 air changes per hour, meeting high- level operating room ventilation standards.

How does the system protect the patient?

SurgiField creates a positive pressure HEPA-filtered environment with a physical barrier protecting against contamination from skin, providers, and surroundings.

What surgical instruments can be used?

A magnetic access opening fits a Mayo tray, cautery pen, and standard instruments, while a separate port manages line ports, drains, and tubing without compromising sterility.

How long does the air filter last?

The Smart Control Module (SCM) has a 2-year operational lifespan under normal use.
Is the system reusable?
The SurgiBubble is single-use. The Smart Control Module and frame are reusable with proper cleaning and maintenance.
